Public Speaking
I have enjoyed facilitating group discussions, leading trainings and conferences, and speaking to small and large groups for over 20 years. I am most frequently asked to speak to community groups and organizations on topics related to public service, personal development, and finding one’s life purpose.
Blog
My initial sports blog, “Thanks King” (titled in tribute to Jim Thorpe), eventually evolved into a series called “Bob and Baseball,” which highlights the role of baseball in the life of Robert Hayashida, a second-generation Japanese-American. Bob’s baseball skills blossomed while imprisoned at Tule Lake, one of the Internment Camps used by the American government during World War II, and led to a prolific post-war life, both on and off the baseball diamond.
One of the blogs in this series is featured in the recently published textbook
Sociology of Sport (12th ed.).
The blog series can be found at bobandbaseball.com.

Sport & Advocacy
I believe in the power of sport to build community, break down barriers, and empower participants. I enjoy supporting a number of service-related organizations and am extremely proud to have recently served on the staff of Special Olympics Northern California.
Other organizations with which I have been involved and/or support include:
Center for Sport & Social Justice, at California State University, East Bay,
Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative (BAWSI),
Optimal Performance Index System (OPIS), and
Max De Pree Center for Leadership (as a former Coach).
